The Benefit Pig Roast has turned into one of our most important and enjoyable fund-raising events. It has grown tremendously since the beginning, as has the Center. This year (2005) was most exciting!
We had great live entertainment from the band, One Night Stand.
Wagon rides were provided by Iron Horse Carriage Company of Marseilles, IL and were much enjoyed by everyone. We certainly thank them and their beautiful palomino paint draft horse, Sonny, who so patiently pulled everyone around in the wagon.
The Northern Illinois Outlaws were present and gave two mounted shooting demonstrations to everyone's enjoyment. They were dressed in period clothing and used period weaponry. Their very own horses, Ace of Trumps and Sarah Lee, were rescues long ago. The children were absolutely thrilled to death when after their performance they led the kids around on the horses. There was also face painting for the children which provided us with a whole lot of Injuns running around.
We also had demonstrations from Harnessing Hope, an equine-assisted psychotherapy program which showed us how horses which aren't even ridden are used in this interesting program and can continue to help people in yet another new way.
The Silent Auction included some very nice items, both horse and non-horse, and all items sold.
Everyone there had a wonderful time. We hope you can join us next year on September 16th, 2006!
